MedViz – a Research & Development cluster in Bergen. MedViz is a cluster of groups performing interdisciplinary research in advanced image analysis and visualisation bridging the gap between “bench and bedside”. MedViz also includes imaging physics and fundamental biomedical translational research. Our mission is to promote the development of biomedical and clinical imaging technologies with the ultimate goal of improving diagnosis and treatment of patients. MedViz wants to develop new clinical methods for potential commercialisation by means of denovo software for analysis, decision support and visual communication.

Ultrasound has been an important medical modality since its discovery. Since the recent introduction of real-time 3D acquisition transducers, its applicability spectrum has widened even more. Its main strengths are real-time aspect of acquisition and visualization, which makes it useful for medical diagnosis, and medical treatment, either as a navigational tool or directly as the treatment medium. When compared to other medical modalities, ultrasound does not come with ionizing radiation, it comes with device sizes from literally pocket-size, up to portable high-end workstations, and it comes with a price range that is affordable for nearly every medical unit worldwide.

EUROSON 2013

2nd Euroson School in Abdominal Ultrasound

Dear friend of ultrasound,
It is a great pleasure to invite you to Bergen to this second Euroson School in abdominal ultrasound with focus on contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS).
This post- graduate course is hosted by the Norwegian Centre of Excellence in Gastrointestinal Ultrasonography and MedViz, which is an R&D cluster in medical imaging and visualisation. The aim of this Euroson School is to present current state-of-the-art knowledge on abdominal ultrasound, CEUS and EUS and to provide a forum for ultrasound
users and developers to report on progress, explore common challenges, exchange ideas and network with each other.
