In modern medicine, the doctor extensively bases the diagnosis and choice of therapy on interpretation of images. A wide range of medical imaging modalities is developed to support and guide management of patients. Image-guided therapy has a rapid growing impact on clinical decision making in many disciplines. However, the potential benefits of all these imaging methods have by far been fully exploited. Multi-modal, multi-parametric and dynamic imaging are important issues that need further penetration with great potential outcomes for the patients.
Therefore, three major institutions in Bergen: Haukeland University Hospital, University of Bergen and Christian Michelsen Research established MedViz in 2008, – as a new Research & Development consortium between these institutions. MedViz is a cluster of groups performing interdisciplinary research in advanced image analysis and visualisation bridging the gap between bench and bedside. MedViz also includes imaging physics and fundamental biomedical translational research. Our mission is to promote the development of biomedical and clinical imaging technologies with the ultimate goal of improving diagnosis and treatment of patients. MedViz wants to develop new clinical methods for potential commercialisation by means of denovo software for analysis, decision support and visual communication, -or in short From Vision to Decision.
